More About the Info:
Ansel made this photograph during The Mural Project under the direction of The Department of Interior. Perhaps due to its physical presence, Ansel gives the Great White Throne a similar treatment as he would to El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. The imposing face is the dominant feature, overlooking the valley below in sentry fashion. A dazzling morning light almost silhouettes the monolith, and consigns much of the foreground to shadow. The highlighted ridge coming in from the right helps to split up the space and collectively give this composition a partially abstract quality.
