The beauty of the American West is immortalized in the landscape photography of Ansel Adams, who was one of the most influential American photographers, and through his photography, one of the country’s most important environmentalists. Saturated and stark, his stunning black and white images of landmark landscapes, such as Yosemite and the Grand Teton, helped to convince Americans of the importance of the National Parks’ lasting beauty and grandeur. This October, Winonans will be able to view some of Ansel Adams’s most enduring images as well as understand the artist in a whole new way.
Dr. Michael Adams, son of Ansel, will travel to Winona on Friday, October 24, for a presentation and discussion on his father, titled “Ansel Adams: A Son’s Perspective,” hosted by Winona State University (WSU) and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM). The talk will be in conjunction with “Classic Images: Ansel Adams Images,” a two-gallery exhibition of some of Anel’s most recognizable photographs at the MMAM. “I talk primarily about his life, highlights in his life and some of my experiences, [which is why] I titled i t ‘A Son’s Perspective,’” Michael explained. “It’s an opportunity to talk about the artist and what he accomplished, as well as the environment that he was so passionate about.”..read more
