Most workshops start at 9:00 am on the first morning. The instructor will determine the start times for the following days based on the type of workshop you are taking. Field sessions are either early in the morning or later in the afternoon and early evening, to take advantage of the best light. The workshop typically ends in the afternoon on the last day.
Where do the classroom sessions take place?
The Ansel Adams Gallery classroom space is located in Yosemite Village behind our store. Unless otherwise noted, all workshop sessions will meet at the classroom space on the first day of the workshop session. Signage will be posted to guide you to the classroom, and either a workshop assistant or instructor will be on hand to meet you on the Gallery front porch.
How much photographic experience do I need?
Our programs are designed for photographers of all levels, but participants should have some photography experience and be familiar with the operation of their camera. An SLR camera is recommended, but an advanced compact camera (with complete manual operation and Raw mode) is okay. For the digital workshops, some prior experience with Lightroom or Photoshop is recommended but not essential.
I understand that a block of rooms has been reserved in the park for each multi-day workshop. Where will I be staying?
Most of the reserved rooms are in Yosemite Valley and within walking distance or a quick shuttle bus ride. There is also limited parking provided behind the Gallery. The block of rooms will either be at Curry Village ($80-$150.00 per night) or The Yosemite Lodge ($150-225.00). Once you have booked your room, you may be able to change your accommodations with in the Delaware North Corporation (DNC) reservation system as you see fit. In the interest of convenience for socializing, car-pooling, and evening sessions, we try to keep participants in the same area.
Can I see what the rooms look like online?
Yes! Please follow the link provided. http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations.aspx
How do I register for a workshop?
Go to the workshop you are interested in on our web site. Below the advertised tuition fee you will see a pull down menu for tuition options. Pick either (full tuition or $150.00 deposit)and simply put it in your cart. Then follow the steps to register as a customer if you are not already, and continue the check out process. If you choose to put down a deposit, that will hold your place in the workshop. You will have to pay the remainder of the tuition 45 days or more prior to the start of the workshop.
After I sign-up for a workshop, how do I make a room reservation?
Our workshop coordinator will send you an email confirming your reservation for a particular workshop. That email will also provide instructions for making your room reservation and a special group services hotel reservation form that you must either fax or mail in prior to 45 days before the workshop starts to secure your room.
Can I share my accommodations with a family member, or another participant?
It’s always nice to share! You are welcome to share your room with whom ever you choose. Most of the workshop programs have very long days. You will find you are not spending a great deal of time in your room. If you would like to find a roommate to help share expenses, we would be happy to let the other participants know, and put you in touch with anyone interested in sharing a room.
What should I expect after I sign up for one of the workshops?
After we receive your online registration and either a $150.00 deposit or your payment in full for the workshop of your choice, we will send you a confirmation email with a 5-digit order number. Within a few days you should receive another email from our workshop coordinator, Dustin Nelson. He will then forward the general workshop information packet containing park information, a list of accommodations inside and outside the park, camping information, as well as general list of what to bring with you. Detailed information about the workshop itself will come directly from the instructor 3-4 weeks prior to the start date of the workshop.
What should I do if I do not receive a payment receipt email?
If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam folder to make sure it didn’t get accidentally deleted. If you still are unable to locate it, call the store toll free and ask to speak someone in our shipping department who can look up your order up and re-send the confirmation. The phone number is 888-361-7622, or see our web site for all the ways you can easily reach us. http://www.anseladams.com/content/customer_service/contact_us.html
Can a family member or friend join me in the workshop?
While the workshops are intensive learning opportunities tailored for participants only, family members are welcome to attend the evening socials as well as some evening slide presentations during the workshop. Please check with your instructor for more information.
That said, there are many opportunities for family members and friends to enjoy their time in Yosemite while you participate in the workshop. There are free art classes, Gallery photo classes, National Park Service walks, tours, and a wide variety of interpretive programs provided by all the Yosemite Park Partners. We would be happy to provide more information on all other activities available in the park during the workshop.
When will I hear from the Instructor?
Your instructor will send an email a few weeks before the workshop to all the participants. That email will provide details on everything you need to know to get the most from your workshop experience, including what you need to bring, weather conditions, and where and when to meet the first day.
What if I need to withdraw from a workshop?
We rely on your attendance to make important arrangements for the workshop. If a participant needs to withdraw from a workshop, he/she must inform us no later than 45 days prior to the first day of the scheduled workshop. We will then refund your deposit or tuition, whichever is applicable, minus the $100 registration fee. Refunds cannot be made for withdrawals initiated within 30 days of the first day of the scheduled workshop. Refunds cannot be made for participant no-shows.
Participants withdrawing from a workshop may also choose to put their current workshop payment on hold for one year. If for any reason you wish to hold the fee or transfer to a different workshop, please notify us at least 30 days before the start of the workshop you wish to withdraw from. You may only make one transfer per hold at a charge of $25. Please refer to the workshop cancellation policy on our web site for more information. http://www.anseladams.com/content/workshops/workshop_policies.html
